Portraits of self-sufficiency: SDW Neukölln

This is the first interview for the series “Portraits of self-sufficiency“, which we are very happy to be launching today. I am also very happy that this is going to be a collaborative project, with great photographer Gabriele

Decide what goes on the billboard

I was walking through Alexanderplatz in the late afternoon, when I saw a group of people drawing on what is normally a panel reserved for advertisement. So I parked my bicycle and talked to them.
It turns out, this was…

Of course I will do it for free – Photographer

UPDATE: there is a new image below.
Inspired by past and always recurring proposals of the “but we will give you exposure”-type, I thought I had no more words. However, it turns out I do.
So, random brand or whatever…

Light

I am working on project… with another photographer, and it will be launched soon. So, please come back.
Negatives have been scanned, photos have been chosen, light has been evaluated and during an almost perfect end-of-summer night, while strolling around

Anti-nuclear energy demonstration in Berlin: let’s fight the system, just not the sexist part of it

On Saturday 18th, roughly 100.000 gathered and marched… from Hauptbahnhof (Berlin central station) to the Reichstag, to show their opposition to the government unwillingness to completely abandon nuclear energy.
I was there, as you can imagine, and besides walking alongside

Domesticity series: hiccups-free morning

A few months ago I mentioned the calm before the storm… in what seems like a typical rant of mine. In the past few months I have been thinking about domesticity for other projects and small investigations, though those were

Photography books

I have a lot of books on photography and I keep on accumulating and accumulating them. I think about is as a path that I am building for myself. Since there is so much to learn about, I sometimes tend

Frankfurt Main Station

Frankfurt Main Station, in German Frankfurt (Main) Hbf, is the busiest railway station in Germany in terms of railway traffic, and the second in Germany when it comes to number of passengers. Hamburg main station can reach 550.000 passengers per…

Time for a change

After ruling out London as a potential dream place to live (though it’s still a great source for interesting shots), I am happily home, soon looking for a new apartment and trying to figure out my next move.
I have

When in London, think about Berlin

I am in London for a couple weeks to attend two interesting courses on textile design… and this chaotic city tends to be overwhelming, at least to someone who is used to relaxed, “take-your-time” Berlin. Not sure why, but whenever

Project planner series: The project description

A project description needs not be very long. As a matter of fact, it should probably be 3-4 pages maximum. However, as you apply to different funding institutions, you might be given a different page limit. The point of this…

Project planner series : Getting started

Writing proposals/descriptions/budgets for a photography project can be a drag. I am not sure I can teach a lot, but I can for sure share what I learned by working on “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable…“. Even though I

Sharing knowledge – Film photography podcast, useful things

It’s always nice to discover things you thought the world needed. Case in point, I recently stumbled upon the film photography podcast…, which is something the world needed because, as the authors themselves recognize, the world is already filled

Looping – On absence

It is not possible to show absence of men. The act of taking a photograph is a human action, and that who gazes at the photograph is destined to think of a man or a woman, if not because of…

And we went to Geneva

I mentioned that “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” has been to Geneva for what it will probably be its last show.
Here are a couple of photographs showing the exhibition and the venue.
This is the wall outside of the university,…

Photos from somewhere else – Napoli

Home, Berlin, dealing with the necessary steps that will allow me to have, albeit only temporarily, the false impression of financial security.
The photos from Geneva are still in their undeveloped film form and the films are still in my…

Short update from Geneva

We made it! After almost having to delay the exhibition due to the university’s mishaps (read: unprofessionalism), the photos went up as planned on saturday afternoon ready for a short and quiet vernissage.
Now I am here for the rest…

Next stop for “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable”: Genève

As you have probably noticed from the change in the graphic on the side bar –> and the poster on the general project page…, next up for the traveling exhibition is the city of Geneva.
I’ll spare you the
