When in London, think about Berlin

I am in London for a couple weeks to attend two interesting courses on textile design… and this chaotic city tends to be overwhelming, at least to someone who is used to relaxed, “take-your-time” Berlin. Not sure why, but whenever

Project planner series: The project description

A project description needs not be very long. As a matter of fact, it should probably be 3-4 pages maximum. However, as you apply to different funding institutions, you might be given a different page limit. The point of this…

Project planner series : Getting started

Writing proposals/descriptions/budgets for a photography project can be a drag. I am not sure I can teach a lot, but I can for sure share what I learned by working on “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable…“. Even though I

And we went to Geneva

I mentioned that “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” has been to Geneva for what it will probably be its last show.
Here are a couple of photographs showing the exhibition and the venue.
This is the wall outside of the university,…

Photos from somewhere else – Napoli

Home, Berlin, dealing with the necessary steps that will allow me to have, albeit only temporarily, the false impression of financial security.
The photos from Geneva are still in their undeveloped film form and the films are still in my…

Short update from Geneva

We made it! After almost having to delay the exhibition due to the university’s mishaps (read: unprofessionalism), the photos went up as planned on saturday afternoon ready for a short and quiet vernissage.
Now I am here for the rest…

Next stop for “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable”: Genève

As you have probably noticed from the change in the graphic on the side bar –> and the poster on the general project page…, next up for the traveling exhibition is the city of Geneva.

“And this was supposed to be a post about a pottery market”

In the past few months I have felt disconnected and somewhat isolated. Now, it’s hard not to fall into the usual “solitary-artist” stereotype who works in darkness and isolation, to then deliver a new masterpiece to a world of stunned…

Urban agriculture – taking back abandoned public spaces in Berlin

Cities have plenty of abandoned public spaces and when they manage to remain in public hands, which is not always the case unfortunately, often something very special can happen. An example is this great project: Prinzessinnengärten… (Princess gardens), launched by

More from the Naples exhibition – video, etc.

While the exhibition is Naples… carries on, I am working for the next one, which will be held in Geneva from the 12th to the 19th of June. In the meantime, however, other videos of the vernissage are surfacing and,

The ceiling – photos from Naples

The exhibition, as you know, is currently in Naples… and the great thing about this is the way in which the space has been organized. “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” is a special exhibition in that it is a traveling one

“Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” in Naples – some feedback

It’s been a long and full week here in Italy. I am currently writing from a beautiful library downtown Turin to give you some updates on the exhibition that is to see in Naples until the 31st in the bookstore…

Public spaces in Berlin: truly public decisions?

Due to something I have been working on, I have been out observing and photographing the city a lot. Berlin is not a city that has gone undocumented. Quite to the contrary, there are many exhibitions and art works dedicated…

Where to go for an analog C-Print in Berlin: my love for lists

I seem to have a thing for making lists, fabric shops lists, darkrooms… lists, and now this.
I have been doing my own C-Prints for a couple of months now and I am glad that I do because it is

Hamburg’s leg of “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable”: photos!

Last Friday, as you know, was the day of the opening of the exhibition in Hamburg. Thanks to CampusGrün…, who invited me to show my work at the university and to their members who helped out a lot

And it’s spring again

So apparently it’s spring and Berlin is slowly (slowly) coming to life. Soon you will have the usual newspaper articles about people massively going to the parks, the bike business reaching its seasonal peaks, and some brave people attempting the…

Sharing darkroom know-hows: Darkrooms in Berlin

I have heard it enough times to make me worry: “dark room work will eventually die out or remain a very restricted niche field”. Is it true?
Be as it may, there is a certain tendency to dismiss analog photography…

Exhibition announcement: Structurally recyclable, basically disposable in Hamburg

As anticipated, the exhibition for “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” is moving to Hamburg!

The December 12 “candle” demonstration in Berlin for the Copenhagen summit

On the 12th of December I went to a demonstration, a candle light demonstration in a cold pre-Christmas Berlin, held in front of the Brandenburg Gate and organised by the group TCKTCK….
The aim was, of course, to tell
