When I tell you that I had been thinking about these bowl shapes for years, would you believe me? Now, obviously we have something special on our hands here. This is a bowl pinched by hand, from a ball of precious porcelain. The stunning colors on the outside are achieved by carefully layering a lava glaze with a thin stroke of copper oxide. The effects are unpredictable.
The organic shape is achieved, intentionally, by only forming the bowl by hand, without the help of any tool or wheel, starting from a ball of clay (around 700g in this case). It takes a lot of skill and time to pinch so much clay, especially porcelain, so I hope you like the results. Because porcelain is special, the process of making this bowl actually takes multiple days: it's not enough to simply shape it, one must wait until it's a little dryer to smooth it out.
"Titanium" was built by hand, pinched from a ball of clay. Once it survived the first firing at 960C, I glazed it first with my white matte glaze on the inside and then my lava glaze on the outside.
Another two days in the kiln, reaching 1240C, and the minerals in the glaze melted and fused with the clay to create this unique beauty.
The bowl is functional and measures 10cm in diameter (it's irregular in shape) and ca 7cm in height.
Due to the nature of the glaze on the outside, this bowl should not be put in the dishwasher, oven or microwave.
All the glazes are formulated and made by me and tested for food safety in accordance with the law.
