Mimas is the smallest of Saturn's moons. It was first discovered in 1789 by English astronomer William Herschel. Mostly made of ice, Mimas is heavily cratered and takes about 22 hours to rotate around Saturn (it is tidally locked just like our moon: it always shows the same face to Saturn).
This small vase is the first vase in the series 274 moons / 274 vases. Mimas is the first in the catalog of Saturn's moons and it was made entirely by hand with a groggy red stoneware clay and then covered by porcelain slip. The inside of the vase is glazed so the vase can hold water.
Mimas is not perfectly round.
The vase was coiled by hand and fired up to 1240C.
The vase is functional and measures 11cm in height and around 8,5cm in diameter at its middle (largest) point.
All the glazes are formulated and made by me.
Certificate of authenticity will be provided.
