Tethys is Saturn's fifth largest moon. It was discovered on March 21st 1684 by Giovanni Cassini. It's tidally locked with Saturn: the same side always faces it. Its surface is cratered, but not as heavily as other moons, although it does have one very big impact crater.

This small vase is the third vase in the series 274 moons / 274 vases. Tethys was made entirely by hand with a groggy red stoneware clay and then glazed with my crater glaze. The inside features a thin transparent glaze.

Tethys is not perfectly round.

The vase was coiled by hand and fired up to 1240C.

The vase is functional and measures 10,5 cm in height and around 9 cm in diameter at its middle (largest) point.

All the glazes are formulated and made by me.

Certificate of authenticity will be provided. You can read the entry diary for the making of this vase here.
