Metal and ceramics: metamorphosis
During my residency with Hands-On and GlogauAir (October to December 2025), I have been researching the relationship between metal and ceramics and ways to combine them, to investigate the themes of transformation and metamorphosis.
GlogauAir Residency (Oct to Dec 2025) and online showcase
During my residency at GlogauAIR I continued my exploration of the theme of metamorphosis by combining metal and ceramics and reflecting about the creative process itself, which is in a constant state of flux. I built ceramic panels and used electroforming, a process through which metal is layered on a conductive surface via electrical current, to add copper to the fired clay.
Cages or Shield series (Hands-On residency April to May 2025)
For the first series, "Cages or Shields", realized during the Hands-On residency, I built porcelain vases by hand, mixing the purity of porcelain with high temperature wire that subsequently transformed and bent during the firing process. The vases reference the alchemy associated with the search for porcelain in Europe in the 18th century. Alchemy also dealt with the attempt to transform metals into gold. These pieces were featured in the London exhibition "In Transition", which took place in August 2025.
