Mary Whitney was an American astronomer. She worked with Maria Mitchell at the Vassar College Observatory and then went ahead to lead it for many years starting in 1888. She championed women to be scientists and raised money to support a program to fund female fellows.
A crater on Venus of 42km in diameter was named after her (see last photo for the actual image of this crater).
This porcelain ring dish is around 9cm in diameter. It was formed entirely by hand and glazed with my matte white and lava glaze, both of which I formulated and created.
Ceramic art rooted in the wonder of our planet
